BUFFALO, N.Y. (
WIVB) - Uncle Sam is writing a big check for Buffalo's bravest.
The Buffalo Fire Department has been awarded a new federal grant totaling more than $320,000. The department plans to use the money to improve training for firefighters and buy new equipment, including a fire truck simulator system.
Rep. Brian Higgins said, "The simulator is actually expected to result in long-term savings for the department by reducing the cost of back filling firefighters injured during vehicle accidents. This training equipment will improve the safety of firefighters and the citizens they serve in the city of Buffalo as they answer over 33,000 calls annually."
The Buffalo Fire Department has received close to $2 million in federal grants over the last three years.
