HARRISONVILLE, Ky. - A fire at a duplex in Shelby County killed a 6-year-old girl and injured three of her family members.

The Waddy Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call of a fire with a person possibly trapped inside at 1:54 Sunday morning. WAVE-TV in Louisville reports firefighters arrived and found a blaze on the lower level of the home.

Waddy Fire Chief Darrell Brown says the fire was too intense for crews to get to the second floor, where Elizabeth Gayle Brown was located. She was later pronounced dead at the scene by Shelby County deputy coroner Jeff Ivers. Ivers says the girl died of smoke inhalation.

The news station reports the girl's father was treated and released from a hospital, and her younger brother and mother were transported to Louisville hospitals.
