First priority is to place large volumes of water on the fire,,,I would be comfortable with a 2 1/2" backup up by another one. These lines should be able to extinguish and cool the exposure at the same time. While this is taking place I would place a blower at the appropriate entrance to the fire structure while making entry with a 1 3/4" extending this line in support of search and rescue. I would also back that up with a like line. Interior crews should access the attic space from below to make sure the fire has not breached this space. I would also place another blower at the exposure and extend an additional 1 3/4" line into that if necessary.
Pressurizing the structure will assist in keeping the fire out of the house and out of the attic.
Specifically where is the "appropriate entrance" for PPV at this fire? If you're referring to the one in Chris Naum's discussion, I don't think there is an "appropriate entrance". PPV is designed for ventilation-controlled fires, and this fire is far past the ventilation-controlled stage. The garage fire is definately fuel-controlled.
I to think this is meant as an answer to Chris Naum's thread? Not keen on the fan as an initial attack on this fire. At the door n the corner next to the garage? I see from your own page that you've been around for a while and have an interest in PPA, but the time taken to set up a fan here? I'll still have my first team going inside with a line for the RE of RECEO I think.
I agree. Based on the type of construction and the amount of flame, adding PPV could be catastrophic. The garage is a total loss and with the exposures so close direct attack with copious amounts of water is the only way to go. Why roll the dice on making this incident larger than the scope already has been made?
Your right concerning the garage,,,the house is within control limits to keep the fire from spreading into the structure.
regarding the entrance,,,most likely the rear. Take a look at positivepressureattack.com for further information regarding safe application of PPA.
