The Moultrie Observer, Ga.
A Moultrie woman was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center after she was found inside a burning house Saturday night.
The Moultrie Fire Department was called to 425 Ninth St. N.W. at 8:51 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the rear of the house.
As the firefighters were preparing to extinguish the fire, witnesses told them someone was inside the house. A firefighter went inside and found Sharon King, 44, inside the house in the living room. She was conscious when she was found but disoriented, and she was taken to Colquitt Regional Medical Center by Colquitt County EMS and was treated for smoke inhalation. A hospital spokesperson said she was treated and released.
King told fire officials she was asleep inside the house when the fire ignited. Fire officials did not find a smoke detector inside the house, and it was believed she would have been awaked before they arrived if a smoke detector had been installed.
The fire was under control by 9:12 p.m., but it caused heavy damage to the rear porch. Firefighters searched for and found several hot spots and extinguished them, preventing further damage to the house. The American Red Cross Sunbelt Chapter was on hand to provide assistance to King and James Williams, who lived in the house.
