After reviewing the forum posts as they relate to radiological response, I noted how many posts had been authored to provide dose rates and stay times to help folks develop SOG's.
Considering that there were NONE, I thought I'd make an attempt to provide some meaningful information for fire departments and hazmat teams. I welcome additional input and realize that this is just a starting point for many.
Don't wait until you need this information for an incident to copy it and place it in your command binder and engine companies. Firefighters have the right to know what it is they are dealing with and have an understanding as to how to read the radiological monitors.
Remember, you may be monitoring an area that could impact where your family and friends live. Take the time to learn as much as you can about this subject to be prepared and knowledgeable when it comes time to explaining things to your community and fellow firefighters.
The attached basic radiological PPT training program is something I put together for my department in 2003. Feel free to totally rip it off, changing the name and logos to match you departments. No sense in reinventing the wheel here. It's already been done and will help you get things started.
Failure to prepare is preparing for failure... be prepared!
