Folks,
I recently ran into a major issue while responding to an EMS call. To abridge the story, Myself and my crew had to force an overhead garage door, powered by a remote control only, with only a halligan and a pry bar. We tried various methods but ultimately had to resort to brute force and baseball swinging at one side of the door until we dislodged enough rollers to force in the door. My question to the community is do any of you have any techniques to force an overhead door with just hand tools. Also, can you make any recommendations for tools that could be added to our ambo for a future situation like this. Also, because i know someone will ask this, Our dept's engine company was taking a significant time to muster, and the mutual aid company i requested took long enough that we eventually got through prior to their arrival.

My apologies, i should have mentioned in this call this was a garage that had no windows and no man doors. A multi unit apartment buildings multi garage. Separate building, only accessible through the overhead door.

If I had to force open an electric garage door with only hand tools.. I would probably break a window and disengage the motor from the track, and open the door. Or maybe force the door to the garage and then walk in and disengage the motor from the track. They're a pain to open with the motor still hooked up!
