what do you think the most dangerous part of a fire ground is also do you think search and rescue is more dangerous than being on the line or working on the fire ground. Thanks for listening
If you look at statistics going to, and coming back from calls is where most of your accidents/incidents happen... But as to your question it's all dangerous... It's all in how "you" perform your tasks!!! If you train hard, and keep your head while your on the scene you should be alright... There are always hidden dangers that you can't prepare for but, that's why we train so much!!!! I know this probably didn't give you the answer you were looking for but the way you conduct yourself will determine how dangerous things can get....
I definatly agree, CJ. Transportation to and from the scene, whether POV or in apparatus, is something to worry about! That's why our chief always reminds us that we're not going to do any good to anyone dead. Speeding to calls in a natural instinct, but it's a danger to everyone involved! And I think as soon as you start to view any situation as a routine response you're in danger! Letting your guard down only gets you in trouble. We had one call-- A typical small structure fire. It was a small barn, no animals inside. Just a shed. Except for the huge drum of diesel inside!
Another danger is on roadways! Motorists can't seem to slow down for the people in reflective vests while craning their necks to see the scene. There's been many a night when I've consider slinging a maglight through a windshield.
I know I didn't answer this, really, either. :)
Search and rescue is, of course, dangerous, but with proper training you'll know how to handle yourself.
