NORTH PORT, Fla. - A deputy chief with a southwest Florida fire department will resign after being arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

David Quaderer cited "recent events" in announcing his resignation in a brief letter to the chief of the North Port Fire Rescue.

Quaderer worked as the department's deputy chief of administration and had been with the agency since 2006.

He was stopped in a department-issued vehicle early Friday morning. According to an arrest report, he refused a field sobriety test.

Quaderer has been released on $750 bond.
