FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Flint authorities have suspended four firefighters and a police officer in an investigation of why it took 12 hours for a woman's body to be found following a house fire.

Firefighters put out the blaze April 17 and left the scene. Neighbors later found the resident's body in a bedroom.

Public Safety Director Alvern Lock said in a statement Thursday that the city has suspended the five employees with pay while its investigation continues.

Lock says "proper protocol is to search ... for any victims." He says the investigation will try to determine if the five fulfilled their duty.

The city says the fire started in the kitchen and was an accident. Police and neighbors identify the dead woman as Luverne N. Wilson.
