SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Authorities say five people who escaped a burning home in Sioux City were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The fire was reported about 8:40 a.m. on Thursday, and smoke was coming from the house when firefighters arrived.

Fire Department spokesman Joe Rodriguez says four adults and an infant where in the house, and two adults were in wheelchairs. Their names were not released, and there was no immediate word on their conditions.

Rodriguez says there were eight dogs and five cats in the house and one of the dogs died.

Authorities told KTIV-TV that it appears the fire started on the first floor or in the basement of the two-story house. The cause is under investigation.
