NEW YORK - One person is in critical condition and four others suffered minor injuries in a fire at a Staten Island apartment building.

Fire officials say the fire at the two-story Egmont Place dwelling was called in at 11:53 p.m. Monday and brought under control 90 minutes later.

Two firefighters and two civilians were taken to the hospital. One person was admitted in critical condition, suffering from smoke inhalation.

The fire started in a second-floor apartment. The cause was not immediately known.
