"Put the big hose on the street, the little hose in the house, and 75% of your job is done as an engine company."

And from my very first fire class 17 years ago, "We are going to teach you enough to get yourself killed."
"No ma'am, we won't come get your cat out of the tree. He'll come down on his own, I promise! Ever seen a cat skeleton in a tree?"(Anonymous)

"Big fire, big water, little fire, little water". (one of our Chiefs on the topic of water usage)

And a couple of my all time favorites:

"Remember when you're up to your ass in alligators, that your objective was to drain the swamp."

"Well...other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"
two in and two out
My standard reply to the bystender question "what happened" at the average house fire was "Train Wreck".

My standard reply to the same question at a vehicle extrication was "Plane Crash".

The last time I ran an actual plane crash, at night in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a bystander asked me the same question. I responded "Shark Attack".
Maybe the one next to him don't .
"The difference between a controlled burn and a wildfire? With a controlled burn the red trucks are there first." Tony P. (Me)

Too many people don't understand that rule!
we came, we saw, and we kicked its ass
Try before you pry

We have a Lt. that is full of Quotes, we call them Billyisms (since his name is Billy)

His favorite is "SHUT UP TO ME"

When he is taking to some one on the phone once he is done talking he will say "Tell me Bye" and then hang up the phone.

When ever we go to a call and it turns out to be nothing he will say "Fire is Scared of Me"

He aways says "You accomplish nothing by Besting a Fool"

He is always coming up with new ones, I could just rember these off the top of my head.
If you are in Charge then take Charge,
If your not in Charge Shut up and listen
If no one is in charge then step up to the plate.
I once heard a fellow firefighter reply to a young boy who had just said"When I grow up I want to be a firefighter".
He said" Son you can do one or the other but not both"

So true. We are just biggers boys and girls with bigger toys-still playing but getting paid to do so. What a job!
Professional is an attitude not whether you get paid or not and that attitude is with the volunteer as much as it is with the paid .
Lefty loosey. Righty tighty.

An instructor in forcible entry once told me "Make sure you bring all your tools with you. It might be a long sprint back to get what you really need."
