Hello all! I am trying hard at re-entering the fire service. I had my first go around cut short by an injury. I am about to take an entrance exam in about a month and one half. I have inquired about purchasing a study guide, but the department will not tell me what the test consists of. They only tell me that the test is ordered from a company from California. Can anyone help me out with any test publishers out of California so I can better prepare for this exam? Hopefully I can get this narrowed down

Are you asking about a written test for hiring on a career dept, or are you asking about some type of school?
If looking at test guides for a dept's hiring process, it depends on what they ask for in requirements, whether the process is open to general applicants or those with fire quals. If they are asking for general applicants (18, HS, Driver license) then the test format is going to be general in nature. You will have math, reading, mechanics, spelling, grammar, perhaps some map reading, maybe a picture to study and answer questions from etc. The questions may be based in FF terms, but they can be answered without any special training. You may have a question with gears and if gear A spins clockwise, which way will gear B spin....or read a pressure gauge and which one is most close to the answer, etc.
In the depts where they ask for FF certs as part of their process, then the test could get into FF specific type of questions. Otherwise if there are such questions to the public, then a study guide would be given to the applicants.
So if you are concerned, try going to your local library, they may have such a practice exam book available. Otherwise there are such books available at a bookstore or online. These are more general in nature exam books, but may be what you are looking for. A dept is not going to tell you what the test consists of, many time the dept contracts out with a test company or the test is administered by HR, not the fire dept.
