Fire victims need help

BRATTLEBORO -- The Disaster Action Team of the Green Mountain Chapter of the American Red Cross and Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA) have been working this week to aid the victims of Saturday night's fire at the Lawrence Block.
According to the Red Cross, apartments in the wing of the building furthest away from the fire were undamaged, and tenants were allowed to return following a safety inspection.

Six families lost everything in the fire, according to the Red Cross. The town of Brattleboro, the Brattleboro Housing Authority and the Brattleboro Drop In Center have all aided the families this week.

The following are suggested clothing items/sizes for the affected families:

* Youth boy's pants and shirts size 10-12.

* Women's size 7 shoes.

* Women's medium, large size tops.

* Boys 3T pants.

* Women's size 9, 10, 13, 15 and 16 pants.

* Boy's 4T shirts.

* Boys shoes, 11 wide.

* Women's coat -- large.

* Women's shoes/boots size 8.

* Men's pants 40W-32L, 33W-32L

* Men's XXL shirts.

* Men's winter coat, XXL.

* Men's medium-large shirts.

Also, six households need to replace all household items and furniture, including microwaves, towels, sheets, blankets, dishes, pots/pans. A laptop computer is also sought for a college student.

Items may be dropped off at the Brattleboro Town Manager's office at the Municipal Center, 230 Main St.



Cash donations may be send to the Help Fund (please designate fire victims), in care of Pat Burke, SEVCA, 91 Buck Drive, Westminster, VT 05158, or to the American Red Cross, Green Mountain Chapter, 81 High St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
