THE Country Fire Authority has been accused of short-changing a landowner by allegedly backing out of a deal to buy a property adjoining its notorious Fiskville training college.

Former CFA captain Ned Callow had hired contractors to pour a concrete slab to start his dream home but his family were allegedly smoked out by toxic plumes from CFA training burns.

Contractors had refused to work there again and his daughter Charmaine, 13, had an asthma attack as a result of the smoke engulfing his property.

He said he complained to the CFA and an employee had allegedly agreed in principle to buy his property for $550,000 last year, but the deal fell through when it was taken to headquarters for final approval.

Where did he get his permits to build?

He would've gone through the approval process with his local Government.

If anyone did proper research, would you seriously want to build next door to a fire training college? Not my idea of a great location...

I am not that brainless.....

On the flip side, Fiskville is a nice rural area. Big open spaces, farming, etc. But next door to a fire college? Apparently some are that brainless!!!!!!

Besides unless it is in writing that CFA was going to purchase the property he does not have a leg to stand on and he should have built his home at the other end of the lot.

Makes me think he is trying to scam the system.
