DETROIT - Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out in an abandoned housing project near downtown Detroit.

The blaze that was reported about 8:15 p.m. Monday in a building at the vacant Brewster-Douglass projects generated smoke that was visible for miles.

No injuries were reported. No further details were released.

A message was left Tuesday with Detroit Fire Department spokeswoman Katrina Butler.

The Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects are located near Ford Field and Comerica Park on the east side of Interstate 75. The complex was the childhood home of three friends who became the legendary Motown singing group the Supremes.
