MITCHELL, S.D. - One of three buildings at a Mitchell motel was evacuated Thursday night after a fire broke out in one of the rooms.
KSFY-TV reports that 21 of the 40 rooms at the Best Western Motor Inn were rented, though not all were occupied at the time. Everyone inside got out safely. Officials also removed six hunting dogs from inside the motel.
There is no immediate word on what started the fire, which was reported about 7:30 p.m. KSFY and The Argus Leader report that at least two rooms have extensive damage.
The Red Cross is helping the motel occupants who were displaced. The Argus Leader reports that Public Safety Chief Lyndon Overweg did not immediately have an estimate on the number.
