How many guys are fire police?
how much do others know what the duty entails?
there is a surprising amount of mis-information out there that is fostering animosity, abuse, and disrespect to them and in many cases against volunteer fire fighters as well.
many paid fire companies say we (volunteers) shouldn't call ourselves fire departments because we dont have the advanced amount of hours training they require.
my question to them is Who pays for your training? our community fund raisers and donations pay for ours.
we have to compete for grants like anyone else.
we have to maintain and repair our own equipment and they have to be up to national standards.
who pays for this? quite often we do out of our own pockets as donations.
fire police are the last to leave a scene and respond in any weather condition fire, flood, blizzard, and fog and volunteers are on call 24/7/365 and often we have to deal with lack of safety gear dependent upon budget
my health conditions prevent me from interior fire fighting regardless of my desire to do so.
I am relegated to fire police and landing zone at this time but when the training becomes available i plan to attend wildfire, vehicle rescue, and whatever classes i am able to take.
