I take it you are just starting the class then or are you taking the certification test?
If just starting the class, relax, like any class you will get the points you will need to know.

It has been nearly 10 years since I completed Fire Officer I, so I asked some of my Captains what they thought after attending the "new" curriculum. Our state is currently using the IFSTA 4th Edition. Depending on what they are using in your state, this may or may not help.

Of the ones that did not pass, they did not pass because of the task book that was sent in after the class. Here in Missouri, a practical skills book is sent home with each student for completion after the class. Make sure you read ALL of the directions in the practical skills book. Make sure you have your officer or Chief look over it. They can offer tips and pointers on what you should include OR what you should leave out.

Don't sweat the class or the test. Read the book, read the standard and if a study guide is provided USE IT.

You should refresh yourself on the management styles, investigation practices, scene control and relate it to what your department officers do and don't do.

Most importantly, don't just "Be Present". Ask questions, actively listen and you will get the information that you need to know.
