Since I just read my post and realized it didnt make much sense I deleted it to repost so that it would make sense.

In MA you have to have the chief of the department sign the form to ok you having the light and then also the RMV has to approve your driving record before they issue the permit.

For this instance you will have to speak with your chief to see if he will approve the permit. Then I am going to guess that you will have to speak to both the ME and NH RMV's to see if they will allow this. When you go speak with the RMV's have a letter from your chief that approves the issue.

NH will have to be the issuing state so they will be liable if anything happens while you are responding because you are in ME with NH plates.

ME will have to also approve because you are in their state with NH plates.

I hope this helps.
Are you just stating thesituation, or asking a question about what you can or can't do? If just staing the situation then . If asking a question, then a '?' somewhere would help, If you are asking what you are allowed to do, why not direct your question to the New Hampshire authorities? Asking people thoughts (remembering we can always be wrong) is rather silly when the people who know are there eaiting to be asked.
Hey Jason:
Welcome FFN..
I served in Vermont on the FD. Vermont requires that the red light permit be provided to the Motor Vehicle Dept and it was noted on my VT State car registration WHICH personal vehicle was assigned to that red light permit. When I had 3 vehicles - I had 3 red light permits. When my husband and I were both on the FD, we had 6 red light permits.

If you work on two fire departments - in two separate States you will probably need a red light permit for each State (of whatever individual State requires). BUT talk to your Chief and the Motor Vehicle Dept to find out what the law is about a car being registered in a different State than the red light permit is issued.

In my experience, New England does not permit you to use your red light across State lines.

You may find that the States' DMVs will honor the neighboring State red light permit for issues such as this one - think Dartmouth-Hitchcock, NH /White River Junction, VT area - lots of those guys serve regularly across the State lines.
