What do you do when your Fire Department lacks a trainging officer, the Chief , Fire Com., and Officers don't send their Men to the right classes that are needed. No body on the Officer level cares.
Then, is that to say that they are sending them to the "wrong" classes? Or aren't sending them at all?
Are you in a time warp? This is how departments operated back in the early 80s.
If you know what needs to be done, step up to training officer.
If the chief won't appoint you, then take classes on your own. Take the free ones, unless you have a nest egg.
Sooner or later, this current department policy will bite your chief where he sits down.
Count on it.

Take your training in your own hands. there has to be classes you can take somewhere bring them to your chiefs attention if you need his appovel for training and he wont give ut to you then you have bigger problems.
STEP UP AND START DOING THE TRAINING YOURSELF YOU WILLNOTICE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN MORAL. GO ONLINE AND FIND CLASSES FOR YOURSELF AND OTHERS EXTRA TRAINING IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING DONT BE DISCOURAGED BY THOSE WHO DONT CARE.
Be the "training" officer yourself...or
Get together with a group from the department and start some training...or
Go to neighboring agencies. Will they allow you to train with them? ...or
Go to a larger County or City Agency nearby...will they allow you to train with them?...or
Community Colleges sometimes offer training
or
Contact you State Fire Marshal
or
Do whatever you can to find training. The internet is a wonderful wonderful thing. As most know from former posts here...I am not a big proponant of powerpoint or on line training...HOWEVER...If it is what you have available to yourself...USE IT! Sometimes, chiefs or others see the interest that you show and then they are willing to send you to training....GOOD TRAINING!!!!!
First off get the training yourself and be a leader in your department. You might be pleasantly surprised at how many might join you and follow your lead.
