EDGEWATER, N.J. - A ferry company says a smoking engine forced one of its Hudson River boats to be towed back to a dock in New Jersey across from New York City.

About five minutes into a trip around 9:30 a.m. an engine overheated on a New York Waterway ferry. The crew shut the engine down and called for help.

Another of the company's ferries towed the boat back to Edgewater, near the George Washington Bridge.

No injuries were reported among the two-member crew and 25 passengers. The passengers were transferred to another boat.

The Coast Guard is investigating.
