Mayor Michael Bloomberg and fire officials say firefighter Paul Warhola died Friday morning at Bellevue Hospital.

Warhola was a 16-year veteran of the FDNY. He was assigned to Engine 221 in Brooklyn.

Warhola became ill on Wednesday while responding to a call. Bloomberg said Warhola returned to the firehouse and "started feeling worse and worse." Colleagues took him to the hospital.

It turned out there was no fire.

The mayor said Warhola was married and had a daughter.
