FDNY Fire Officer Killed in the Line of Duty

It is with deep regret that we advise you of the Line of Duty Death of FDNY Lieutenant Robert J. Ryan, age 46, from Engine 156 on Staten Island. Lt. Ryan was operating at a fire in a 2 story single dwelling at Van Buren St. and York Avenue when, according to initial reports, there was a collapse.
Reports are that a portion of the ceiling fell on him, knocking his helmet off and possibly causing problems with his SCBA as well. Lt. Ryan's engine company was first due on this run.
Lt. Ryan had recently returned to work after recovering from a serious burn injury...he had been with the FDNY for 17 years. Lt. Ryan is survived by his wife and four children.

My condolences, and prayers go out to Lt. Ryans Family and Brother Firefighters. This is always a tragic and sorrowful time I have seen way to much of it being in the Fire service for over 39 years. I wish his crew my condolences too! KTF, PTB. ( Lt. when you run into Chief Ganci, and Chief Downey, let them know that I think about them every day, and the rest of the guys. My name is Kerry DeVaney, I am not a Firefighter, but my younger brother is. He is an Asst. Chief at Whitesville Volunteer Fire Department in Charleston, S.C. He was is a horrible training fire on Febuary 10, 2003 that almost took his life, but by the grace of God he not only survived but has returned to duty. I now bow my head and send prayers toward you and your family, I hope that you and yours know how large your Fire Department Family is. We will always be there if you need anything. ( I know that he is "hangin' out with our Fallen 9 ) God speed Lt. Ryan.

Lets stand proud for the life of LT. Ryan lets not be sad but strong. As this is the best way a fellow brother may rest in peace. Knowing he gave his life doing what God wanted him to do fighting the flames of the Devil. May God be with your family and friends and fellow brothers of the almighty FDNY . R I P my Brother
