NEW YORK - Firefighters spent most of their night knocking down a big restaurant fire in midtown Manhattan that continued to snarl traffic into the morning rush-hour.

The FDNY said Friday morning that it went to five alarms before the main body of the fire was put out.

It started around 12:30 a.m.

Streets were closed around 39th Street and Third Avenue and some buses were rerouted. Some neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

The FDNY says 12 firefighters suffered minor injuries.
