NEW YORK - The New York City fire department is promoting a firefighter whose first day out of the academy was on Sept. 11, 2001.

Patrick Connolly is becoming a lieutenant after eight years in the department.

Anthony Sodano also is being promoted to lieutenant. He and other firefighters from Ladder 126 saved four people from a burning house in Queens on April 20.

Connolly and Sodano are among 44 members of the Fire Department being promoted at a ceremony Thursday.
