Are Firefighters and EMT's under paid. every thing they do and put there life at risk to save someone elses for little pay. But pro athletes make millions of dollars to play a game that most people would play for free. but I was just wondering if any of you thought that u should get paid more money for putting ur life on the line.

ANSWER YES.
Chief told me that I did such an outstanding job last year that he was going to double my salary for this year.....How's that for a raise....!!!! Let me see....I volunteer and got paid exactly $0.00 this year....so next year that will be.......????? Hmmmm....maybe he is trying to tell me something....LOL Stay safe and remember to always Keep the Faith.....Paul
YES I THINK WE NEED MORE MONEY THAN LEBRON MAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If my fire fighter duty pay was doubled it would still equal $0.00. For those who are paid it should be, at least, increased with the cost of living and then some. TCSS
Boy you hit the nail on the head. It's a very under paid profession. But you know i would and have done this job for free before getting into the Career side of it. Besides the short end of the pay chain we get the satisfaction of helping people and that is good enough for me to make up for the pay that we deserve but don't get.
We shouldn't get more $ for putting our lives on the line. We should get more $ for the shit we have to put up with.

A plumber cost $60.00 an hour when it's not an emergency. $150.00 when it is an emergency. Think about it!
When we market ourselves as well as the NFL does their game, have as many people pay to watch us work, and when we have only 32 teams with 53 players each to ensure a high-demand, low supply market, then we'll paid as much as professional athletes.

Until then, we'll continue to do it for whatever we can, if career, and for free, if volunteer.

Ben
especially in todays economic crisis, those who are paid are fortunate to have jobs and those of us in the volly circuit are lucky to have equipment. We lived high on the hog for quite a long time when the economy was good and now that we have to tighten up and do whats needed it's tough.

The forecast isn't looking good. More cut backs on funding, more lay-offs. We all can get through it if we all stick together.
Look back in the history of this service just say in the past 50 years. FFs have almost always (career) had a second and sometimes third job. Alot of these jobs are in construction or something else that aids them in the work that they live for, fire/rescue! I have had many jobs over my life, fire/rescue is always number 1 though. Why have we always done this...because it needed to be done. We don't quit (rarely) the fire service because we needed more money coming into our homes, we just gett a second job. Like my grandad (a Lifer in the fire/rescue biz) use to say, You'll always find work, but the fire service is a job because we love it! Think about that. Stay safe, learn something new today.
We have a lot more people watching and critiquing us, but there are many more of us doing the work, thus the diluted pay scale.

NFL - High Demand, Low Supply = High Value per Performer
Fire/EMS - High Demand, High Supply = Low Value per Performer
i feel that firefighters and paramedic's are all under payed. i feel that the mayor of every city and town should try and the job for a week and see if his job is only worth 30,000 to 45,000 a year. any sports players should do the same thing. people that =make millions of dollars can't even think that there job is harder then use as firefighter and paramedic's.
