NEW YORK - A suspicious fire swept through the top floors of a four-story Brooklyn building, killing three people - including two children - and injuring several others.
The fire was reported just after 5:30 p.m. Monday on Putnam Avenue. About 60 firefighters battled the blaze, which was brought under control about an hour later.
A police spokesman says a 62-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl were discovered on the top floor. They were pronounced dead on arrival. The third victim, a 3-year-old girl, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A fire official says at least three people were hospitalized, one in critical condition, and two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. The names of the victims have not been released.
