Thick smoke and is being blamed for a tragic on scene accident at a grass fire in Oklahoma Saturday that claimed the life of a firefighter, a father who was involved in a head-on vehicle collision with his son who was also fighting the blaze, local media outlets reported.
The incident in Atoka County left 61-year-old John Myers dead,
KTEN reported. He was driving a Wesley Fire Department pickup that crashed with a truck driven by his son, 31-year-old Juston Myers.
The elder Myers was died at the scene after being severely trapped in his vehicle for nearly two hours. His son was treated at the scene and a third firefighter who was riding with him, Clayton Rice, was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
According to the preliminary
Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Juston Myers was driving a 2000 Ford pickup and his father was driving a 1985 Chevy pickup owned by the department. The report indicated that seat belts were available but not in use in either vehicle.
