Two people have died in a house fire in New York City.

Fire department spokesman Chris Larney says firefighters rushed to the 2 1/2-story Brooklyn home about 5 a.m. Sunday.

The victims' identities haven't been released.

Larney says nine firefighters suffered minor injuries including burns; two of firefighters are being treated at a hospital.

The spokesman says the fire in the East Flatbush neighborhood was extinguished in about 1 1/2 hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
