SHAWNEE, Kan. - The family of a Shawnee firefighter who died during a house fire is thanking the community for its support.

John Glaser of Olathe was to be laid to rest Thursday in Leawood. The 33-year-old Glaser died Saturday when he became separated from his crew while searching a burning house.

In a statement released Wednesday, Glaser's wife, Amber, said the family continues to struggle with its loss. But she says the family has been comforted knowing that Glaser died doing something he loved, and by an outpouring of support from the community.

The Kansas City Star reports that a memorial fund for Glaser's family has been established. Contributions may be taken to any Bank of America or mailed to Bank of America c/o John Glaser Memorial Fund, 175 Claireborne Road, Olathe KS 66062.
