This discussion is all about protecting your face and eyes. Do we all pack up and/or wear face and eye protection when necessary? I look around and find myself and others constantly bitching at someone for not protecting their eyes and faces! We all know things can change or happen in an instant. One example, we pulled up on a Dodge Dakota with light fire conditions in the front yard of a residence. Two of us pulled a cross-lay and packed up to put out the fire. Immediately, there was a pop from the vehicle and my partner was knocked to the ground by something that hit him in the face very hard and at a high rate of speed. We didn't even get out gloves on! It was the rear window glass shock! It discharged and hit him right between the eyes. Ten seconds earlier it may have killed him. His SCBA face piece saved him. Just food for thought as we do this job. How many of you see these things daily and how do we get it through their heads?

Good save! This is a textbook example of why we need to wear all of our PPE!

A fire department several towns to the south east of me had a car fire. When they began applying water, they hit a magnesium part and showered the FF on the tip with sparks and fire. He had ALL of his PPE on and wasn't injured at all!
