Ergometrics Fire Test
This discussion is directed to those members that have taken the Computer based Ergometrics fire test when applying to a department. At this time, the city of Portland Oregon in now hiring for firefighter positions. I have applied and am going to test in February to compete for the job. Like many of you it is my goal to get hired and start my career so that I may support my household securely, but I am asking for some help. I would like to hear from anyone who knows what the four sections of the test entail. Math and mechanical aptitude specifically interest me as to what I need to study so that I am fully prepared. At this time I am not able to do the practice test online because my computer is not compatible with it. So any info will help, what do I study? Any opinions of the test, or anything else I would be grateful to hear.

I will tell you the math and Mech aptitude are kindergarten as best. I failed the thing. I have no idea of how to pass it. To be honest, whoever came up with it should be smacked. Best of luck.

Only the math and Mech sections are really pass fail. As stated both are very basic at best. The rest of the test is designed to give the department a snap shot of the candidate. Are you team player?, do you/ can you follow rules?, how do you see the glass- half full or half empty?
There are no right or wrong answers to the questions, only how you would respond when placed in a situation.
