Recently I decided to order some visual translator fold-outs for my dept. for use. We are cross-trained , dual-staffed (i.e. ALS and fire) and of course the language barrier is primarily an EMS issue. I am hoping for some feedback on these "Quikpoint" cards. I think they should come in handy on some runs. We do have some new immigrant groups coming in that speak relatively rae languages (the Karen for example) and these cards, I hope, will help us identify medical problems more quicly. I concur, though, that friend and family tend to be the best option for interpreters.
