Hello everyone,

I’m sure you all have had topics like this come up a million times on here but I recently just took a few municipal civil service exams here in NY state. I am fairly fresh and green to the fire fighter scene. I wish I could say that I’ve dreamed of being a firefighter since I was a kid but I wouldn’t be completely honest. I am 37 years old, with no true firefighter background. I am a high school graduate with a college degree in criminal justice. My dream was always to get into police work but have aged out of that just a couple years ago. I have been currently working for the state for a couple years now and signed up/took a couple firefighter exams and scored a 90 on them. I have recently joined my local fire department as a volunteer but have been with them for less than a year. I just received a canvass letter with one of the local departments. My question is.. is it  possible to be hired without the experience that alot of these other guys have over me? Ive been looking into some EMT classes to better my chances, but didn’t think I would receive a canvass letter so quickly from one of the exams. Any info you guys have would be great.
