PHOENIX - About 50 people had to be evacuated after a fire in the elevator motor of a Phoenix high-rise.
Phoenix Fire Department officials say no injuries have been reported.
Smoke was seen coming from the roof of the Esplanade II across the street from the Biltmore Fashion Park around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday. The building has 14 floors and businesses occupy 11 of them.
Fire officials say that because the fire ignited after 5 p.m., many people has already left the businesses in the building.
Sixteen crews responded and investigators discovered an isolated fire ignited after the elevator motor controlling the building's elevator pulley system burned out on the roof.
The Arizona Republic says smoke from the fire moved down the elevator shafts, causing fire alarms to go off on every floor.
