Elderly Woman Dies In Massachusetts Senior Housing Fire

HAVERHILL, Mass. - Fire officials say an 89-year-old woman died during a fire at the senior housing complex where she lived.


The one-alarm fire at Merrivista was reported just before 8 a.m. on Sunday

Police Lt. Kevin Dorr tells The Eagle-Tribune that when firefighters arrived, residents of third floor apartments had been evacuated and there was heavy smoke in the hallways and heavy smoke coming out of the woman's apartment.

The woman was found on a bed. She was taken by ambulance to Merrimack Valley Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her name was not immediately released.

The fire remains under investigation.
