MOUNT AIRY, Md. - Eight people were displaced when a fire caused more than $100,000 in damage to a house in Mount Airy.

The fire was reported about 9:30 p.m. Monday when the homeowner arrived to see smoke coming out of the single-story rancher.

Thirty-five firefighters from multiple companies brought the fire under control in 30 minutes. One firefighter was treated and released at a local hospital for minor injuries.

Fire officials say a preliminary investigation showed the fire was caused by a faulty furnace.
