CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A fire has destroyed three homes and damaged five others in a Clarksville subdivision.

Fire Marshal Ray Williams says the cause of Wednesday morning's fire is unknown. The Leaf-Chronicle reports the fire started in one home and spread to the others after being fanned by heavy winds.

Residents were not injured but a firefighter, Lt. Steve Peters, was treated for heat exhaustion at Gateway Medical Center and released.

Williams says the Red Cross assisted one man who lost his home and that the two others belonged to Fort Campbell soldiers. He says the home where the fire started belonged to a soldier who deployed to Afghanistan this week.
