RICHMOND, Calif. - Residents of an assisted living facility in Contra Costa County who were forced out by a fire are expected to return home Monday.

The Contra Costa Times says eight residents were displaced Sunday night after an overheated power strip caused a small electrical fire at the home in Richmond.

Fire Battalion Chief Eric Newman says the blaze was doused within 10 minutes but smoke prevented residents from returning and they were taken in by the Red Cross.

Newman says they'll be able to return Monday.

The fire caused about $5,000 in damage.
