PHOENIX - A raging fire at a Phoenix apartment complex has displaced the residents of about a dozen homes.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Capt. Jonathan Jacobs says the blaze near 19th and Northern avenues destroyed four apartments on the third floor of one building.
The flames tore through the common attic above the four units. Four apartments on the second floor probably suffered structural, water and other damage and residents on the second and first floors won't be allowed back in for at least one night.
The fire broke out just before 3 p.m. Thursday and brought under control in less than an hour. A woman who lived in a third floor unit suffered heat stress but was OK after being treated at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Red Cross officials said Thursday night that they were helping the 32 residents - 15 adults and 17 children - who were displaced by the fire.
