After reading the story, it raised a lot of questions.

But, I have one question and it comes from the fact that it was reported this morning that the balloon could only carry something that weighed in the neighborhood of 30-35 pounds and the young boy was at least 50 pounds.

It sure would be nice if we could get a version of this story that we could “comfortably” believe and not deal with all of the possibilities, but I have one question:

Who should pay for the massive response by public safety, among others for this incident?

Does this go well beyond what would be included in a typical list of services provided or should the taxpayers continue to take it in the shorts because someone is looking for fame, fortune or are really that stupid?

What are your thoughts?

As a sidebar, I think that the Department of Child and Family Services should look into the "fitness" of the parents.
It looks to me as though the children are being subjected and exposed to dangerous situations. And knowingly so.
Maybe the kids need to be moved to a safer environment.
There's your new reality gig, Mr. Neene.
If it is decided that the family must pay for services, they'll probably get into some other type of mischief in attempting to raise cash. Wait - maybe Mr. or Mrs. Heene will write a book about the ordeal.
Neene
I meant Heene.
Damned "N" is too close to "H".
Keystroke slip.
Joe; I would bet the book is written and they are "shopping" it.

Heard on the news this morning that the Heenes were already looking at a bill for $500,000 for re-imbursement of agencies involved with the search and rescue.
Something tells me that they don't have that kind of money.
Better hurry up and sell the book with movie rights.

I agree with you, Art. It's gonna be a while before the book is ready since some of the chapters are still being written.

The back-up plan may be speaking engagements and talk-show appearances. There will be a lot of people wanting to see first hand what "stupid" looks and sounds like.

It's fortunate that no one was hurt (or worse) chasing the balloon, otherwise the cost would have multiplied by 10 or 100.
I don't get it.
They wanted to be on camera, but now they don't want to be arrested on camera and in front of the kids.
They did EVERYTHING together.
Why the change in heart?
Mommy has her own attorney.
Daddy hasn't been very nice lately.
I'd like to see the look on his face when he gets the bill.

I agree all the way!!Make the family pick up the full tab on this deal!!!No reason the tax payer's should have to pay this.I really think the whole family need's help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the whole thing was staged and the family should pay. It doesnt look like he would of bin able to climb inside with out it deflateing.
