WASHINGTON - The Department of Homeland Security has called off plans for an emergency exercise in Las Vegas after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid protested that the event could harm the region's struggling economy.

The exercise had been planned for May and would have simulated a major security threat on the Las Vegas Strip. But Reid says that the exercise would have created unnecessary anxiety and that businesses were worried about the fallout. He wrote DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano last month and asked her to reconsider going ahead with the exercise.

Reid says he will work with the department to ensure its workers have the resources necessary to respond to security threats.

Imagine that, lord knows we don't want to inconvenience anyone while training to develop the skills and contingency plans to save their lives. What was DHS thinking........
AWESOME, Reid says he will work with the department to ensure its workers have the resources necessary to respond to security threats.
That is a BRILLIANT idea, get em the resources but don't train on how to use, organize, and efficientlly use them. Another fine example of politicians playing Chief. I mean really!?!? I take nothing away from the admin and leadership of all of the emergency services in LV and I say this with respect but, does anyone there have two ounces of stones? I say run the drill. Let Reid cut his own political throat and make threats of not funding this, that, or whatever.
Like Ralph said, Don't Forget! These freaking yahoos have to be elected. Educate yourselves, your families, and your friends. Become active and make a change and a difference.
Be safe and learn something new today.
I hope his constituents remember this when the next election comes up, the citizens deserve to be protected by emergency responders that are well trained and prepared for the unexpected. Maybe the Chief should put that in a press release.
