The head of the Detroit Fire Department is retiring.

Fire Department spokeswoman Katrina Butler says Executive Commissioner Tyrone Scott retired Thursday after 32 years with the department.

Butler, who is chief of the department's community relations division, said Scott's retirement had been in the works for some time.

Deputy Fire Commissioner Seth Doyle will run the department pending Mayor Dave Bing naming a successor to Scott.

Mayoral spokeswoman Meagan Pitts had no immediate comment.
