DES MOINES, Iowa — A truck delivering hydrogen to the Duane Arnold nuclear power plant in eastern Iowa has exploded, sending the driver to a local hospital.

A statement from Duane Arnold says the incident, which happened early Tuesday afternoon, has posed no threat to the public or the plant.

The company says the facility continues to operate safely.

Duane Arnold, which is located near Palo just outside of Cedar Rapids, says its internal fire brigade and local firefighters responded to the blaze.

The driver was injured in the explosion, though their identity and condition aren't immediately known.

Duane Arnold, Iowa's only nuclear plant, says on its website that it employs over 500 people and generates enough power for more than 600,000 homes a year.
