NEW CASTLE, Del.(AP) -- New Castle County police say officers helped pull two people from a burning home on Friday night.

Police were called to the home on Montpelier Road to help firefighters. They found a 30-year-old man yelling out a window that his 79-year-old grandmother was trapped inside. The man was refusing to leave the home. A neighbor pulled a pickup truck out the window, and officers dragged the kicking and screaming man out.

The officers saw that the elderly woman was at the bottom of the window. They tried to pull her out by her arms, and a New Castle city officer jumped inside and lifted her enough that the other officers could pull her to safety.

The woman was taken to Christiana Hospital, where she was in critical condition on Saturday.
