BOSTON, MA – A Boston firefighter resigned the force yesterday morning after federal agents and police raided his Maine home, where they said they discovered 131 marijuana plants and a sophisticated pot-growing operation, authorities said.

Firefighter Sean Berte, 31, of Rehoboth, who police call a “serious person of interest,” was on duty at Ladder 17 Park Square firehouse Friday night when he was contacted by law enforcement about the Bridgton, Maine, raid.

Berte’s father-in-law, identified as Michael Domenici, 61, was on the property when agents and police struck, and was arrested.

“There was all kinds of cultivating equipment,” said officer Donald McCormick of the Bridgton Police Department. “This was one of the most sophisticated, well-organized growing operations we’ve seen in a long time. This guy definitely knew what he was doing.”

Berte joined the department in 2001. He was assigned to Ladder 17 on Columbus Avenue and has no history of discipline nor commendations, said fire department spokesman Steve MacDonald.
