D.C. Firefighters Tackle George Washington University Fire
WASHINGTON (AP) — A fire that broke out at a George Washington University fraternity house has cause significant damage a week after most students moved out.
D.C. fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says a student moving into the house reported smelling smoke Tuesday afternoon at the Zeta Beta Tau house on the GW campus.
Several streets around the Foggy Bottom campus remain closed for the evening rush hour due to the fire.
Piringer says it took firefighters time to find where the fire was burning. They discovered the blaze in the walls and into the attic. No one was injured. Damage at the house is significant, making it uninhabitable.
Piringer says the fire appears to be accidental, but authorities are still investigating the cause.
