(AP) WASHINGTON

The D.C. fire department has halted the launch of fireworks at Nationals games until a safer location is found.

Fire chief Dennis Rubin tells WTOP-FM he made the decision after debris fell on him as he watched Sunday's game against the New York Mets.

Rubin says fireworks were initially launched from the scoreboard this season, but were later moved to the top of the stadium's roof behind home plate due to safety concerns. Now he says the fireworks might have to be moved to the Anacostia River.

Fireworks had been launched after the national anthem, home runs, a Nationals win, and after every Friday game.
