Connecticut Resident Dies In House Fire; Woman Ran Inside To Rescue Pets

HARTFORD, Conn. - Fire officials say a Hartford woman who went back into her burning home to try and save her pets has died.

Authorities say the woman in her 30s initially made it out of the Putnam Heights home after the fire was reported at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, but went back inside, became disoriented and was overcome by smoke. She was found by firefighters on the second floor. Her name was not made public.

Investigators say the building had six apartments. It is believed the fire started on the second floor and spread to the third.

It is not considered suspicious, but remains under investigation.
